How to use alpha-channel video in Vatom Spaces
Using VP9 encoded WebM Video Format, videos with alpha channels can be displayed with transparency in Vatom Spaces.
Video files with an alpha channel like MOV files in Prores 4444 can be converted to .webm and retain transparency during playback. Compressed formats like MP4 do not retain Alpha Channels.
WebM supported browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge.
Apple Safari will NOT display WebM transparency.
If transparent video is critical to the experience, we recommend enabling “Check Browser” in File > Settings > Browser Settings and enabling an “Unsupported Action”, a Warning or Lockout to prevent users from entering with Safari.
Adding Transparent Video to Spaces
Use the standard Media Plugin to playback .webm videos in Vatom Spaces. Simply create a media screen and choose your webm file. If it is not already in your Storage it will be added to the Media Folder.
For Transparent Video, you must check the "Transparent" checkbox in the Video Destination Component of the media screen.

Green Screen Tips & Tricks
- Keep the camera at Eye Level, using a standard or portrait lens.
- Use a tripod to keep the camera stable.
- Use lighting to:
- Ensure consistent brightness on the green background behind the speaker (no shadows or highlight spots)
- Separate the speaker from the background (edge light and/or toplight)
- Do not wear green or reflective clothing
- Use a clip lavalier or shotgun (boom) microphone for better sound
- Choose a simple pose to start & end with. A simple resting pose is best, and this will be the image shown until the hologram is interacted with.
For Vatom Spaces, keep hologram clips short, preferably under 30 seconds each.
