1. Create Coupon Design
Start by creating a new "Coupon" design. Coupon pools are used in several "Ticket" and "Gift" designs as well to generate QR codes.
The coupon design requires a background image (750 x 1200px jpg or png). Additional text and buttons are styled in Vatom Studio.
If the coupon has an expiration date, create an "expiration image" to replace the coupon after the set date (750 x 1200px jpg or png)
If you upload a "Main Design/Art Asset" the coupon will appear as a popup card. If no main design is added, the coupon loads as the main asset.
The optional settings to display your codes are:
Scan Setting: A "scannable" QR or Barcode. Adjust the type of code, color, size and placement. Ensure the code is large enough to be read by the required barcode scanning devices.
- QR Code
- Barcode (Code-128, UPC-A, EAN-13, PDF-417)
Coupon Code: A plain-text display of the code. Use {{code}} in the text field to autofill the unique code.
Code Subtext: Additional Text Field, often used to display the expiration or additional details. Use {{pin}} to display an optional PIN code, and {{expiry}} to display and optional expiration date if these fields are required by the Code Pool CSV.
Coupon Value: Display the Value field as plain text.
Use the following to reference the appropriate field in the code pool to be displayed as text.
- {{code}}
- {{pin}}
- {{expiry}}
- {{value}}
Go to URL Button: Link directly to a code redemption website, and optionally auto-fill the code in the URL. This URL is set when configuring the Coupon Pool.
Expiration Image: Image that displays instead of the Coupon when the "Expiration Date" has been reached.
Disabled Image: Image to display when the coupon has been disabled.
Guest Text: Text displayed to users arriving as a Guest. Guest users cannot receive a coupon as there is no delivery verification.
All text can be styled using the Vatom Studio Editor. Change colors, font, size, spacing, and more.
2. Uploading Coupon Pool
To upload a Coupon Pool, navigate to the "Connections" page in the Business Profile dropdown by clicking your avatar image in the top-right.
On the Connections page for your business, choose "Manage Coupon Pools"
In the Coupon Pools page, choose "New Coupon Pool"
When creating a new Coupon Pool, give your pool a reference name (no spaces or special characters).
This is where you can add an optional URL for this coupon pool redemption. The URL can include a placeholder for the coupon code using {{code}}, eg https://mystore.com/discount/{{code}}
On this page you can download a sample of the Coupon Code pool. Do not modify the header, and do not use commas in your codes.
Codes can be alphanumeric, have spaces, special characters, etc.
Only "Code" is required. PIN, Expiration and Value fields are optional to fill, but should always remain as columns and in the header.
code | pin | expiry | value |

3. Connect to Coupon in Campaign
When creating a campaign with a coupon, add your Coupon design to the campaign with Add Subject > Design.
Coupons have a specific behavior that connects to the coupon pool, and auto-populates a unique code to each specific vatom coupon.
Coupon Behavior
Enter the Coupon Pool Name from the coupon pool you just created in Connections.
Enable the coupon for use.
We do not recommend allowing guest access to coupons.
Assuming there is a limited quantity of codes available, ensure the delivery mechanics prevent more coupons being delivered than exist.
- Scarcity: Set an Object Scarcity to equal the number of codes available. Scarcity cannot be reset once the campaign is LIVE.
- Prize Pools: If coupons are ONLY being delivered through a prize pool, you can limit the quantity within the Prize Pool settings.
Testing Coupons
TEST Mode uses 'live' coupon codes when coupon objects are generated. When testing, either create a Coupon Pool with a set of dummy codes, or once testing is complete, return to Connections > Coupon Pools and reset the active coupon pool. Objects created during testing are immediately deleted from wallets when campaigns are switched from TEST to LIVE or from TEST back to EDITING.
